1905 PC782 Rotograph Postcard Collection (3)

Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $1,763

Collection of three extremely rare PC782 Rotograph real-photo postcards issued in 1905, each depicting an individual member of the New York Giants: Joe McGinnity, George Brown, and William Dahlen. Designated PC782 in the American Card Catalog , Rotograph postcards are an unusual and distinctive set that features New York players (either Giants or Highlanders). The Standard Catalog lists eight different players confirmed in the set (including the three offered cards) but notes that the checklist may not be complete. Each postcard (3.25 x 5.25 inches) pictures the player in uniform posed in a formal studio setting. The player's name and team affiliation are printed along the base, as is the notation "Rotograph Series." The printing on the reverse further credits Rotograph, "The Rotograph Co., N.Y. City." 1) Joe McGinnity. A few stray ink marks, as well as a short message in black fountain pen in the lower margin. Light residue of postal-stamp marks on the front. Addressed and mailed; postmarked 1906. Vg (without regard to the writing). 2) George Brown. A short message is written in blue fountain pen in the lower margin. Light residue of postal-stamp marks on the front. Addressed and mailed; postmarked 1907. Vg (without regard to the writing). 3) William Dahlen. Front is Ex; minor abrasion and slight hints of having been glued into an album on reverse, as well as a pencil notation that reads "$15." Never mailed and no other writing on the reverse. Total 3 postcards. Reserve $200. Estimate $400+. SOLD FOR $1,763
