1907 Grignon Chicago Cubs Postcard Collection (5)
Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $529
Collection of five cards (four different) from the rare and unusual "Grignon" Chicago Cubs photographic postcard series issued in 1907. This set was produced to commemorate the Cubs' participation in the 1907 World Series and is one of the most popular baseball postcard issues of the era. Each card pictures a large teddy bear in a baseball pose with a small black-and-white portrait of a Cubs player in an upper corner. The collection is comprised of the following: two Carl Lundgren (Gd, never mailed with Cubs' home game schedule and advertising for the Boston Oyster House, a local Chicago establishment, on reverse; the second example has message written on both the front and back, otherwise Vg), Pat Moran (message written on both front and back, otherwise Vg), Ed Ruelbach (Gd), and Harry Steinfeldt (Gd). Four of the five cards have been mailed and have writing on their traditional postcard reverses. Technically in modest grade, these are all very attractive cards. This is a sharp-looking group of these rare and very distinctive postcards. Dimensions: 3.5 x 5.5 inches. Total: 5 cards. Reserve $200. Estimate $300+. SOLD FOR $529
