1949 Bowman Partial Set (175 of 240)

Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $1,293

1949 Bowman partial set of 175 different (out of 240 cards in set). The sixty-five cards missing for completion (thirty-seven low #s and twenty-eight high #s) include #24 Musial, 27 Feller, 29 Kiner, 50 Robinson, 60 Berra, 65 Slaughter, 70 Furillo, 84 Campanella, 85 Mize, 100 Hodges, 111 Schoendienst, 214 Ashburn, 224 Paige, 226 Snider, 233 Doby, and 238 Lemon. Keys: #1 Bickford (Gd), 11 Boudreau (Ex), 18 Thomson (Ex), 23 Doerr (Vg-Ex), 26 Kell (Vg), 33 Spahn (possible slight trim, otherwise Ex), 36 Reese (Vg-Ex/Ex), 46 Roberts RC (possible slight trim, otherwise Ex), 98a Rizzuto NNOF (Vg), 110 Wynn RC (Fr), 162 Roe RC (Vg), 175 Appling (slight trim, otherwise Vg-Ex), 194 Branca RC (Vg), 209 Keller (slight trim, otherwise Vg), 210 Gordon (Vg), and 229 Lopat RC (slight trim, otherwise Vg-Ex). The balance of the cards grade: Low Numbers (97 cards): sixty cards are Ex, thirty-two range from Vg to Vg-Ex, five cards slightly lesser (including a few trimmed). High Numbers (62 cards): thirty cards are Ex, twenty-four range from Vg to Vg-Ex, eight cards slightly lesser (including a few trimmed). 1949 Bowman is the most underrated set in terms of rarity among Topps and Bowman sets issued between 1948 and 1955. This collection could provide the foundation for an impressive-looking set, and at the same time offer a potentially economical approach to the 1949 Bowman set. Total: 175 cards. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$1,500. SOLD FOR $1,293
