1957 Topps Complete Set (407)

Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $1,058

50% range from Vg-Ex to Ex-Mt (averaging Ex), 45% range from Pr to Vg, and 5% appear to have been hand-cut from sheets. This is a very attractive mixed-grade complete set of the classic 1957 Topps issue. The wide range and approximately equal distribution in higher and lower grades may make this set a bargain compared to a high-grade set, but the cards look great and would be a very welcome addition to just about any collection. We are always amazed at how popular sets like this are, and looking at the cards and their cost compared to higher-grade sets, it's easy to see why. (Additional interesting note: Those that collect low- or mixed-grade vintage sets sometimes have to be even more patient than collectors seeking high-grade sets!) Highlighted by the rookie cards of Don Drysdale, Frank Robinson, and Brooks Robinson, the 1957 Topps also includes many additional key star cards, including Ted Williams and Mickey Mantle. Two cards are graded and encapsulated by BVG (Beckett). Keys: #1 T. Williams (Fr), 2 Berra (Fr-Gd), 7 Aparicio (80/20 L/R, otherwise Ex-Mt), 10 Mays (Pr), 15 Roberts (Gd), 18 Drysdale RC (Pr), 20 Aaron (Pr), 24 Mazeroski (Pr), 25 Ford (Gd), 30 Reese (Gd), 35 F. Robinson RC (Fr), 38 Fox (Pr), 40 Wynn (sheet cut), 55 Banks (BVG PR 1), 62 Martin (BVG VG+ 3.5), 70 Ashburn (Gd), 76 Clemente (sheet cut), 80 Hodges (sheet cut), 90 Spahn (sheet cut), 95 Mantle (Pr, heavily worn), 97 Yankees Team (Pr), 125 Kaline (Vg-Ex), 170 Snider (sheet cut), 210 Campanella (Pr), 212 Colavito RC (Pr), 250 Mathews (sheet cut), 286 Richardson RC (Vg), 302 Koufax (Fr), 312 Kubek RC (sheet cut), 324 Dodgers Team (Fr), 328 B. Robinson RC (Fr), 338 Bunning RC (Pr), 400 Dodgers' Sluggers (Gd), 407 Mantle/Berra (Fr). 1957 Topps have always been very popular due to their classic photographic style and inclusion of so many stars. Affordable, attractive low-grade sets of classic issues from the 1950s such as this always generate tremendous collector interest. This is the type of vintage set that to many collectors represents the very best value. Total: 407 cards. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$1,500. SOLD FOR $1,058
