1959 Topps Complete Set (572) with 49 PSA-Graded Cards

Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $4,113

High-grade complete set of the classic 1959 Topps baseball set. Of the 572 cards in the set, forty-nine (8%) have been professionally graded and encapsulated by PSA, including many of the key cards (Mantle, Mays, and Aaron). This set was purchased in the year of issue by our consignor, an old-time collector, and has been stored in the closet for over forty years. This is a beautiful, very carefully assembled set. Most cards are both sharp and extremely well centered. The 1959 Topps set is highlighted by all the stars and Hall of Famers of the era, including the rookie card of St. Louis Cardinal Hall of Famer Bob Gibson. The PSA condition report is as follows: Twenty-three cards are graded NM 7: #163 Koufax (OC), 180 Berra, 184, 310 Aparicio, 319, 334, 338 Anderson RC, 357, 376, 387 Drysdale, 438, 464 Mays Catch, 475, 487, 491, 504, 505, 525, 528 Pirates team, 533, 535, 536, and 550 Campanella. The 523 cards which have not been encapsulated are comprised mostly of commons. The condition of the not-yet-encapsulated cards ranges in grade from Ex to Nr/Mt condition, averaging Ex-Mt overall (with a few slightly lesser). This a beautiful high-grade set with tremendous eye-appeal across the board. Crisp and attractive complete set of this classic 1950s issue. The SMR value for just the forty-seven graded cards (not including the one qualified card of Koufax, one VG-EX 4 of Cash, and the 523 ungraded cards) is $2,561. Total: 572 cards. Reserve $1,000.
