1964 Venezuelan Topps #331 A. L. Bombers with Mantle Maris - Highest Graded!
Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $1,058
Graded EX 5 by PSA. Only two examples graded at this level by PSA, with none graded higher. Extraordinary high-grade example of #331 “A. L. Bombers” featuring Hall of Famers Mickey Mantle and Al Kaline, and star players Roger Maris and Norm Cash, from the 1964 Venezuelan Topps set. The Topps Venezuelan issues are among the most fascinating sets of the 1960s. The first 370 cards of Topps’ traditional U.S.-issued 1964 baseball set (# 1-370) were reprinted on a darker cardboard stock for sale in the Venezuelan market. The fronts are identical in design to the regular-issue Topps’ cards. This card has light wear on the corners and is centered very slightly to the left. Topps Venezuelan cards are rarely found in such high grade. They are almost always found with light paper loss and scrapbook remnants on the reverse, since these cards were intended to be glued into an album produced for that purpose. This very attractive example is a rare exception to this rule; the back is clean and intact with only one tiny spot of paper loss on the left border. Though they receive little attention because they are virtually never found in high grade, Topps Venezuelan cards are among the most unusual and rare baseball-card sets of the decade. This is a virtually unheard of high-grade Venezuelan example of the most popular multiplayer card in the 1964 Topps series. Reserve $300. Estimate $500/$1,000+. SOLD FOR $1,058
