Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $1,778
Collection of eleven early All-Star Game programs spanning the years 1935 through 1959. Vintage All-Star programs have always been appreciated as great classics, and a case can also be made that they represent one of the best values in the entire world of memorabilia. This is an exceptional group of eleven substantial programs that include dozens of Hall of Famers, from the days of Lou Gehrig to Mantle and Mays. The early programs included here are particularly noteworthy. 1) 1935 at Cleveland's Municipal Stadium. Signed in pencil by Hall of Fame golfer Gene Sarazen (grading "7") on the front cover. Neatly scored in pencil. Vg, with a very light vertical fold, minor creases, and a few light stains on the reverse. 2) 1937 at Washington's Griffith Stadium. Not scored. Vg-Ex, with a light vertical fold and partial separation of both covers along the base of the spine. 3) 1941 at Detroit's Briggs Stadium. Neatly scored in pencil. Vg, with very light foxing on the cover and a few of the interior pages, as well as a few minor creases. 4) 1943 at Philadelphia's Shibe Park. Lightly scored in pencil. First night game in All-Star Game history. Scarce wartime program. Vg-Ex, with a light vertical fold and scattered light staining on the cover. 5) 1950 at Chicago's Comiskey Park. Lightly scored in pencil. Vg-Ex, with light creasing throughout. 6) 1951 at Detroit's Briggs Stadium. Not scored, but the lineups have been partially written in ink.
