Freestanding Original Yankee Stadium Seat

Starting Bid - $400, Sold For - $2,370

Offered is a desirable piece of baseball history in the form of an original single seat from Yankee Stadium. This seat, bearing the stenciled seat number "5," was one of many saved from the wrecking ball during the stadium's renovation in 1973. During its decades of service, this chair has witnessed dozens of World Series games, and the finest moments of the careers of Ruth, Gehrig, Mantle, and Maris, as well as all of the other great players who have made the Yankees the greatest dynasty in the history of the game. The freestanding seat displays normal wear commensurate with its age and former use, including chipping to the blue paint (revealing traces of the original green paint underneath) and oxidation to the exposed metal framework. Unfolded, the seat measures 24 (W) x 17 (L) x 31 (H). The substantial size/weight of this item requires that there will be a shipping charge for this lot (which will vary depending upon where it is being shipped). The shipping charge will be billed separately from the auction invoice. Reserve $400. Estimate $800/$1,200. SOLD FOR $2,370
