1966 Bobby Knoop California Angels Home Jersey
Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $830
California Angels home jersey worn by second baseman Bobby Knoop in 1966. The white flannel jersey is lettered "Angels" on the front and features the number "29" on the reverse. The player's name, uniform size, and year ("Knoop 44 66") are chain-stitched in green on the left front tail. Also located on the left front tail, directly below the name, are a laundry tag and adjacent flag tag that reads "Set 1 1966." A "Spalding" label appears in the collar. Original and unaltered, the jersey displays moderate wear, including a few light stains on the front, in the area of the neck and shoulders, and on the upper back. 1966 marked Bobby Knoop's best all-around season of his nine-year career, and the only year in which he was selected for the American League All-Star team. Knoop appeared in 161 games with the Angels in 1966, finishing the season with a league-leading 11 triples, 17 home runs, 72 RBI, and a .232 batting average. This jersey was originally discovered by a family in 2001 among the belongings of a deceased relative. Although they did not know how it was originally obtained, they were always intrigued by it and in 2005 they took it to the Antiques Roadshow held in Los Angeles. As noted in an accompanying letter from the original owner (to our consignor), the sports experts were very excited on seeing it and wanted to feature the item on the television program, but, unfortunately, they ran out of time and the family missed out on their "15 seconds of fame." This is an outstanding early Angels flannel, worn by Knoop during the finest season of his career. Reserve $200. Estimate $500+. SOLD FOR $830
