1991-1995 Don Mattingly Pro-Model Bat
Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $593
Don Mattingly Louisville Slugger signature-model "C243" bat dating to the 1991-1995 manufacturing period. The bat displays heavy use, including numerous ball marks (with white-leather scuffs), deep stitch impressions, grain checking, and a thin application of pine tar on the handle. A small crack on the upper handle has been repaired (barely noticeable). Mattingly's uniform number ("23") is written on the knob in silver paint pen. Despite being severely hampered by a back injury during his final six years in baseball (1991-1995), Mattingly still managed to produce consistent numbers, batting .288, .288, .291, .304, and .288, respectively during that span. One of the game's greatest hitters during the 1980s, as well as one of the most popular players in Yankees history, Mattingly finished his career with 222 home runs, 1,009 RBI, and a .307 lifetime average. This is a picture-perfect Don Mattingly pro-model bat and one that would make a fine addition to any advanced bat or New York Yankees collection. Ideally, this Mattingly bat has been consigned directly from the personal collection of extremely respected bat expert Jim Caravello (who has specialized in collecting Yankees jerseys and bats for the past twenty-five years, and is also one of the highly respected resident experts of gameuseduniverse.com), and is accompanied by a detailed one-page letter from him attesting to its authenticity. LOA from Jim Caravello. Length: 34.5 inches. Weight: 32 ounces. Reserve $200. Estimate $400/$800. SOLD FOR $593
