New York Giants Limited-Edition LeRoy Neiman Serigraph - Artist's Proof - Signed by Simms, Taylor, Carson, Bavaro, and Landeta
Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $1,067
Titled Giants - Broncos Classic, issued in 1987, serigraph numbered "AP 30/120" (Artist's Proof), flawlessly signed in pencil in the lower margin by Phil Simms ("Phil Simms #11 S.B. XXI M.V.P."), Sean Landeta ("Sean Landeta #5 NY Giants SB XXI Champs"), Lawrence Taylor ("Lawrence Taylor #56 SB XXI XXV Champs"), Harry Carson ("Harry Carson HOF 2006"), Mark Bavaro ("Mark Bavaro #89"), and artist LeRoy Neiman (all grading "10"). Edition limited to 892 total impressions (375 numbered impressions, 375 hors de commerce, 120 artist's proofs, and 22 printer's proofs). This colorful artwork, issued in commemoration of the Giants' victory over the Broncos in Super Bowl XXI, pictures a number of key Giants players, including quarterback Phil Simms (MVP of the game), Joe Morris, and Mark Bavaro. It is also one of only two 82 depicting the New York Giants and the only one to honor a Super Bowl triumph. It must be noted that this serigraph was not issued as a signed piece. Our consignor spent considerable time and money to obtain the five "key" Giants signatures displayed here, the presence of which superbly highlight its status as the preeminent New York Giants art piece and define it as a modern classic. According to our consignor, this is one of two LeRoy Neiman New York Giants serigraphs he had signed in this manner. While it is theoretically still possible for collectors to obtain these same five signatures on other examples of this serigraph (at great expense in time and money, we might add), we have never seen, nor are we aware of, any other signed examples outside of this one and the other example formerly owned by our consignor. The serigraph measures 38 x 28.5 inches (image size) and has been handsomely matted and framed to total dimensions of 53.5 x 44.5 inches. In apparent Near Mint condition. The substantial size/weight of this item requires that there will be a shipping charge for this lot (which will vary depending upon where it is being shipped). The shipping charge will be billed separately from the auction invoice. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $200. Estimate $400/$800. SOLD FOR $1,067
