1909-1911 E90-1 American Caramel Joe Jackson
Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $6,518
Graded FAIR 20 by SGC. This extremely rare and desirable E90-1 American Caramel card features the legendary Joe Jackson, and is one of only a handful of cards of Joe Jackson issued during his playing days. This card dates from extremely early in Joe Jackson's career, when he was a member of Connie Mack's Philadelphia A's, where Joe would play a mere ten games before Mack traded him to Cleveland. In addition to being one of the key rarities of the classic E90-1 set (which is the most widely collected of all 1910-era caramel issues), this is Jackson's first card as a Major Leaguer and as such is indisputably recognized to be his rookie card. The Jackson card is a key rarity in the E90-1 set and this fact combined with its universal appeal single-handedly keeps many E90-1 American Caramel sets from completion. We are particularly pleased to be able to present this example in the same auction in which we are presenting (as a separate lot from the same consignor) an E90-1 American Caramel Company complete set missing only Joe Jackson and two commons. This circulated but still magnificent card would fit in perfectly with this set (as well many others!). Several creases, evenly rounded corners, and a hint of paper loss near the right edge on the reverse allow for a grade of only FAIR, but this is still a very attractive example of this extremely rare and important card, superior to many others we have seen, and one that, like a low-grade Wagner to T206 collectors, will always be of great interest to E90-1 and Joe Jackson collectors. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000/$4,000+. SOLD FOR $6,518
