1908 to 1933 Vintage Boxing-Card Collection (6)
Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $948
Collection of six different high-quality boxing cards from four different sets, dating from 1908 to 1933, two graded by SGC and four by PSA. 1) 1908 T226 Red Sun: Al Kaufman (PSA EX-MT 6, highest-graded T226 Red Sun boxer ever graded by PSA). 2) 1910 T220 Mecca (3 cards): James Corbett (PSA NM 7), John L. Sullivan (SGC EX 60), and Sullivan and Kilrain (SGC EX 60). 3) 1911 T9 Turkey Red: #71 Battling Hurley (PSA EX 5 [MK], the card has been qualified due to a tiny number "3" written in pencil on the top right corner of the reverse). 4) 1933 R338 Sport Kings: #18 Gene Tunney (PSA EX-MT+ 6.5). Compared to vintage baseball cards from the same era, boxing cards are just beginning to be widely recognized for the outstanding collecting value they offer. It is a given that if these were baseball cards of the same quality, each card would be valued much higher. Even the most advanced collectors find it hard not to appreciate the exceptional quality, design, and rarity of vintage boxing cards. This is an extremely attractive small collection of very high quality vintage boxing cards from four of the most highly regarded of all boxing-card sets. Total: 6 cards. Reserve $300. Estimate $500+.
