1954-1955 Topps Hockey Complete Set (60)
Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $1,541
Complete set of the landmark 1954-1955 Topps Hockey series, the first hockey set issued by Topps. This important set includes only 60 cards, and features players from the four American teams: Detroit, New York, Chicago, and Boston. This is a very attractive mid-grade complete set of 1954-1955 Topps, one of the most popular and classic of all hockey-card sets. Nine cards are graded and encapsulated by PSA (6) or SGC (3). Keys: #1 Gamble (Vg), 3 Howell (Vg), 5 Kelly (Vg), 8 Howe (SGC VG 40), 10 Worsley (Vg), 11 Bathgate (Vg-Ex), 18 Mohns RC (Vg), 20 Gadsby (SGC EX/NM 80), 39 Delvecchio (Gd-Vg), 41 Stanley (Vg), 49 Quackenbush (PSA EX 5), 51 Lindsay (Vg-Ex), 58 Sawchuk (SGC VG 40), and 60 Schmidt (last card in set, PSA EX 5). Four additional PSA EX 5 cards: #2, 4, 48, and 53. The balance of the cards grade as follows: 55% range from Vg-Ex to Ex-Mt (averaging Ex), 45% Vg (with a couple slightly lesser). The flush-to-the-bottom-border design of the 1954-1955 Topps Hockey set makes this issue particularly susceptible to edge and corner wear, and makes the assembly of high-grade sets all the more difficult. This is an exceptionally attractive mid-grade set, with tremendous eye-appeal across the board. Total: 60 cards. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$1,500. SOLD FOR $1,541
