Circa 1930 Federal "Hi-Power" Shot Shells Tri-Fold Advertising Display

Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $1,304

Magnificent tri-fold advertising display, issued by the Federal Cartridge Corporation of Minneapolis, Minnesota, in promotion of the company's "Hi-Power" Shot Shells. The enormous display, measuring 56 x 25 inches, features a central illustrated panel of ducks flying over a marsh. Each side panel pictures an identical image of a large shot shell, below which is an opened 25-count box of shot shells. We have only seen a few other examples of this piece, most of which pale in comparison with regard to condition. General handling imperfections are evident in the form of a few moderate abrasions (the largest of which is in the central panel), edge wear, and a few small pin/nail holes (all of which are in the border areas). It should be noted that most of the flaws are modest in nature and do not detract in the least from its overall Excellent appearance. Its outstanding state of preservation is no doubt related to its provenance. This particular display (along with a number of other vintage Remington advertising pieces and a spectacular Wilson Sporting Goods display offered elsewhere in this auction) was only recently discovered in the attic of a woman whose family owned a sporting-goods store in the 1920s, and has not seen the light of day for decades. Vintage 1930s-era advertising displays, especially those relating to hunting and firearms, have always been highly prized by collectors, and this piece represents not only one of the finest examples of the genre, but a condition rarity as well. Reserve $500. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $1,304
