Andy Warhol Signed Valentine Letter/Art Display Piece
Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $1,185
One-page letter with heart, both typed and handwritten and drawn, signed by Andy Warhol (1928-1987), American artist, filmmaker, and pop-culture icon. The undated letter, on Interview letterhead (the magazine he founded in 1969), is addressed, in Warhol's hand, to "H. A. LeBeau." The typed portion of the letter reads "I've had a grand passion for you for months and here it is. Now have a grand passion for me. Happy Valentine's Day Sweetheart!" It is signed "Love Andy Warhol." Warhol has drawn a large "Heart" around the body of the text, making this an original Warhol art piece as well. Both the handwritten portion of the letter and Warhol's signature are boldly scripted in black marker and grade "10." The letter (8.5 x 11 inches) displays two horizontal mailing folds and is otherwise in Near Mint condition. Accompanied by its matching Interview envelope bearing H. A. LeBeau's name and address typewritten on the front ("H. A. LeBeau, Cadbury USA, New Haven Road, Naugatuck, CT. 06770"). The envelope (9.25 x 4 inches), which features no stamp and has not been mailed, is in Excellent to Mint condition. Both the letter and envelope have been mounted (it appears by means of adhesive on the reverse) and are beautifully and very expensively framed together to total dimensions of 30 x 26 inches. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $1,000. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $1,185
