Hartland Famous Western Gunfighters in Original Boxes: Earp, Colt, Maverick, Hollister, Hardie

Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $948

Extraordinary high-grade collection of Hartland statues from the rare "Famous Western Gunfighters" series, each in its original box. In 1958 Hartland began production of a series of stand-alone Western figures without horses. In keeping with tradition, all of the figures depicted characters on popular Western television shows from the era. In total, ten figures would be produced within a two-year span, and all would be available for retail sale until 1961. This remarkable collection is comprised of the first five figures produced by the company. It should be noted that these stand-alone Hartlands are infinitely scarcer than the mounted riders offered by the company and for many collectors high-grade examples, such as these, are looked upon as "holy grails" in the field. Ideally, three of the figures here are also accompanied by their original tags. As most collectors know, the original tags and boxes are exceedingly rare, especially in high-grade, and are seldom offered at public sale. All of the Western Hartland figures in this auction originate from an extremely advanced collection that was assembled with condition in mind, and as such, most of the figures offered here rank among the finest examples we have ever seen. While the boxes offered in this lot are in somewhat lesser condition when compared to those accompanying the other Hartland statues featured in this auction, most are superior to the few other examples we have seen and their extreme rarity is such that condition is normally overlooked. They are nearly impossible to find! In an effort to remain consistent, all of the items have been graded on a scale of "1" to "10." The figures are listed in the order in which they originally issued by the company. 1) Wyatt Earp #709. Complete with original hat, two guns, tag, and box. Figure and accessories: arms have separated from the interior rubber band (broken; which accompanies the piece; possibly can be reattached); otherwise "9." Tag: "9." Box: "5," one of the side flaps is detached (but present) and the price is written (and partially erased) on the front in pencil. 2) Chris Colt #761. Complete with original hat, two guns, tag, and box. Figure and accessories: "9." Tag: "9." Box: "4," one top side flap missing, the other detached and repaired with tape; small tear on side of box. 3) Bret Maverick #762. Near-complete with original hat, gun, and box (missing tag). Figure and accessories: "8.5." Box: "4," both bottom side flaps missing, the main bottom flap detached and repaired with tape. 4) Clay Hollister #763.
