1891 N100 Duke "Bicycle and Trick Riders" Complete SGC-Graded Set (25)

Starting Bid - $400, Sold For - $1,778

Complete set of twenty-five 1891 N100 Duke "Bicycle and Trick Riders" cards, all graded and encapsulated by SGC (all submitted by REA). Rarely offered high-grade complete set of these extremely popular and colorful tobacco cards, with eighteen cards ranging from Vg to Nr/Mt+, five are Gd, and two lesser. This is an extremely strong set across the board, with almost all cards having a far superior appearance to the harsh SGC-assigned grades (as is often the case with nineteenth-century tobacco cards). The SGC grades are as follows: One NM+ 86: Riding Tandem. Two EX/NM 80: Leg Over Handle and Standing On Saddle. Eight EX 60: Coasting On Eagle, Pedal and Step Trick, Pedal Mount, Posed On Front, Riding Backward, Riding The Ordinary, Slack Rope Riding, and The Start. One VG/EX 50: Coasting. Six VG 40: Balanced On Pedal, Color Bearer, Easy Riding, Maltby Coast, Riding Down Stairs, and Riding Side Saddle. Five GOOD 30: Riding One Pedal, Riding Tricycle, Small Wheel Raised, Unicycle, and Working Using One Pedal. Two FAIR 20: Rolling Cigarette and Setting The Pace. This exceptionally colorful set was issued with Duke's Honest Long Cut and Navy Long Cut tobacco brand. Each card (2-1/2 x 4-1/8 inches) features a colorful, graphically detailed lithographic image relating to cycling. This is an extremely attractive set, with fascinating subject matter, and with outstanding eye-appeal. The set is one of the favorites from the many assembled by a very advanced old-time nonsport collector. This very scarce issue is rarely seen as a complete set, and is highly prized by nineteenth-century nonsport tobacco-card collectors. Total: 25 cards. Reserve $400. Estimate $800+. SOLD FOR $1,778
