1909-1911 T206 White Border Collection (182 Diff, 33 HOF), Including Ty Cobb and O'Hara, St. Louis

Starting Bid - $2,500, Sold For - $16,590

Collection of 182 different T206 White Borders including an extremely impressive thirty-three Hall of Famers (of the seventy-six Hall of Famers in the set), among them Ty Cobb (SGC EX 60), Christy Mathewson, Nap Lajoie, and Tris Speaker. Also included is a low-grade example of T206 rarity Bill O'Hara, St. Louis variation. 30% range from Vg-Ex to Ex, 60% are lesser grades (mostly Vg), and 10% appear Vg or better (in many cases with an Excellent appearance) but have a slight trim. Ten cards are graded and encapsulated by SGC (all submitted by REA). Keys: Baker (SGC VG/EX 50), Beckley (trimmed), Bender/trees (Vg), Bender/port. (Gd), Bresnahan/port. (trimmed), Bresnahan/bat (Vg), Brown/Chicago (Gd), Brown/port. (Gd), Chance/bat (Vg), Chance/yellow (Gd), Chase/blue (Vg-Ex), Chase/dark cap (Gd), Chesbro (SGC EX 60), Clarke/bat (Ex), Ty Cobb/bat off (SGC EX 60, Polar Bear), Collins/Minn. (Vg-Ex), Duffy (Gd), Evers/Chicago (Fr), Griffith/port. (SGC EX 60, El Principe De Gales), Griffith/bat (Gd), Huggins/hands (Vg), Huggins/port. (Vg), Joss/pitching (Vg-Ex), Keeler/bat (Vg-Ex), Kelley (Fr), Lajoie/bat (SGC VG/EX 50, Polar Bear), Marquard/sides (Ex), Marquard/port. (SGC EX 60), Mathewson/dark cap (SGC GOOD 30), McGraw/no cap (trimmed), O'Hara/St. Louis (SGC GOOD 30, Polar Bear), Smith/Chi. & Bos. (SGC VG 40, Polar Bear), Speaker (SGC FAIR 20), Tinker/bat off (Vg-Ex), Tinker/bat on (Vg, Sovereign 460), Tinker/knees (Vg), and Walsh (Vg-Ex). The Good condition example of the O’Hara, St. Louis T206 variation that is included has a couple creases, rounded corners, a diamond cut, and staining (not uncommon for this card, which was only issued with a Polar Bear back, and Polar Bear cards are almost always stained). This is still a very presentable example of this highly desirable T206 rarity. This T206 collection is a great looking and very substantial group, with thirty-three Hall of Famers, representing a tremendous start to a very attractive medium-grade complete set of T206, the most popular and classic set of the era. Backs almost all Sweet Caporal and Piedmont, but also included are El Principe De Gales, Tolstoi, Sovereign, Old Mill, and Polar Bear. The equivalent SMR value for just the ten SGC-graded cards (not including the 172 ungraded cards) is $6,465. Total: 182 cards. Reserve $2,500. Estimate $5,000+++. SOLD FOR $16,590
