1909-1911 T206 Bill O'Hara - St. Louis Americans Variation
Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $3,851
Graded VG-EX 4 by PSA. Offered is an exceptionally attractive technically mid-grade example of the rare O'Hara, St. Louis Americans T206 variation. This card has a particularly interesting and noteworthy provenance: It is the rare T206 O'Hara card from the T206 set that accompanied "The Connecticut Wagner" (that appeared as Lot 3 in REA's May 2010 auction, selling for $282,000). The Plank from the set appeared as Lot 5 in REA's May 2011 auction, selling for $94,000. This auction includes the balance of the set (mostly sold together as a near-set but we've pulled out a few special cards including this rare O'Hara to be offered individually). Polar Bear was the only company to issue the rare T206 O'Hara, St. Louis variation. This card is not only a significant rarity, but is naturally very difficult to find in high grade. This is directly related to the fact that T206 cards issued with Polar Bear tobacco were packaged without the protection from the tobacco provided to T206 cards issued with other brands. The card has a light crease near the lower left corner, and only a few very tiny spots of tobacco stains (more noticeable on the reverse). Bright and crisp, with extremely fresh colors, and centered slightly to the right. This is an extremely pleasing mid-grade example of one of the key significant (and in our opinion very underrated) rarities from the classic T206 White Border set. SMR value is $3,750. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,500+.
