1910 E90-2 American Caramel Complete PSA-Graded Set including Honus Wagner (11)
Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $5,036
Complete set of 1910 E90-2 American Caramel Pittsburgh Pirates. All eleven cards in the set have been graded and encapsulated by PSA. These extremely distinctive and rare "E" cards feature members of the World Champion 1909 Pittsburgh Pirates. The key card in the set is Honus Wagner The Wagner example in this set is technically in low grade but is still a very nice looking card. This is one of Wagner's rarest and most striking cards, and is especially popular as it features a portrait image very similar to that which appears on his famous T206 card. This set also includes a particularly strong example of Hall of Famer Fred Clarke. This is an extremely attractive set with cards ranging in grade from PSA PR 1 to PSA VG-EX 4. Almost all have exceptional eye-appeal and many appear much stronger than their technically accurate assigned grades. The PSA condition report is as follows: One VG-EX 4: Dots Miller. Four VG 3: Babe Adams, Fred Clarke (HOF, bright and crisp, with a virtually flawless image set against a striking red background, a few unobtrusive creases), Ham Hyatt, and Owen Wilson. Three FR 1.5: George Gibson, Tommy Leach, and Deacon Phillipe. Three PR 1: Sam Leever (this is the one card that compared to the other cards is visually weak), Nick Maddox, and Honus Wagner (HOF, bright, crisp, and clean, with perfect registration, and an extremely bold blue background. The card has been downgraded due to a tear on the lower left portion of the card). Few caramel-card issues are as distinctive as E90-2 American Caramel Company cards. While closely related to the popular E90-1 American Caramel series, E90-2 is actually a separate set. The artwork of E90-2s is among the most detailed of all caramel cards, and far superior in quality at even a glance to that of most other caramel cards (including E90-1) and other card issues of the era. Though the cards in this set vary in grade, several cards are particularly strong, and most of even the lowest-graded examples have tremendous eye-appeal. Total: 11 cards. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000/$3,000+. SOLD FOR $5,036
