1911 M116 Sporting Life Ty Cobb - Pastel

Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $1,778

Graded EX 5 by PSA. Strong example of Ty Cobb from the M116 Sporting Life set, one of the most popular of all 1910-era issues. M116s have always been highly appreciated by collectors for their distinctive style and rarity relative to the more commonly seen tobacco cards of the era. Ty Cobb, of course, is one of the key cards of the series. Bright and extremely clean both front and back. The corners are square with just the slightest hint of even wear. Only the faintest sliver of a very light stain along the top edge of the reverse (barely detectable, even with a magnifying glass in strong light) keeps this card from an even higher grade. This is a very strong card for the grade, and has a strong EX-MT appearance. The advertising for Sporting Life (rare "Over 300 Subjects") on the reverse is printed crisply and boldly in blue. No creases and perfectly centered! This is a very attractive high-grade example of one of Ty Cobb's most classic cards. SMR value is $2,200. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000. SOLD FOR $1,778
