1912 T207 Brown Background Partial Set (150 of 200 Plus 1 Variation)
Starting Bid - $1,500, Sold For - $5,036
T207 Brown Background partial set is comprised of 150 of the 200 cards in the set, plus one variation for a total 151 different cards from this classic tobacco-card issue. 52% range in grade from Gd to Vg-Ex (includes some Ex), and 48% lesser (includes several which appear Ex but have a very slight trim). This partial set has been consigned by the family of an old-time collector. The T207 set includes many rare cards and has always been extremely challenging to complete. Included here are fifteen rare cards, as well as many scarce cards that do not fall into the extremely rare category (including the very scarce Graham). Six cards (all rarities) are graded by BVG (Beckett), and one additional card (Lapp) is graded VG-EX 4 by PSA. Keys: Almeida (Pr), Bender (HOF, slight trim), Benz (Gd), Bresnahan (HOF, Ex-Mt), Carey (HOF, Vg-Ex), Chance (HOF, Gd), Graham (Gd), Hartley (slight trim), Hoff (slight trim), Hyatt (Pr), Johnson (HOF, slight trim), Kelly (POOR 1), Kuhn (FAIR 1.5), Kutina (Pr), Livingston ("A" on shirt, Fr), Marquard (HOF, Pr), McCarthy (Fr), Miller (Bklyn, FAIR 1.5), Moriarty (Gd), Phelan (POOR 1), Ragan (Gd), Tinker (HOF, Gd), White (Authentic), Wilson (Pitt, FAIR 1.5), and Wood (Vg). Among the listed key cards, three have the rare red Cycle backs, ten cards have the rare Broad Leaf advertising backs, and two have the rare no advertising on the reverse backs. The rare backs (Cycle, Broad Leaf, and no advertising) are always associated with the rarer cards in the T207 set. The remaining 126 cards all have Recruit advertising backs (except one has the Napoleon Little Cigars back). This is an exceptionally attractive partially complete set, appearing at a glance far stronger than suggested by the very respectable and technically accurate grades listed above. The tremendous number of extremely rare cards in the T207 set makes this issue one of the most difficult to complete of all 1910-era tobacco-card sets. There are quite a few rare cards to find to bring this set to completion, but this collection represents a very substantial foundation for the assembly of this classic tobacco-card set. This is an extremely attractive low- to mid-grade partial set of this important tobacco-card issue, including many highlights. Total: 151 cards. Reserve $1,500. Estimate $3,000/$5,000+.
