1914 E145 Cracker Jack #30 Ty Cobb

Starting Bid - $1,500, Sold For - $8,888

Graded VG/EX 50 by SGC. Extraordinary example of #30 Ty Cobb from the classic 1914 Cracker Jack series from an original-owner find long ago. This would be a great card in any holder. It would be hard to imagine a nicer example in a VG/EX holder. This card is a gem! The 1914 Cracker Jack Ty Cobb is universally recognized as one of card collecting's great classics, and one of Ty Cobb's most desirable and striking cards. 1914 Cracker Jacks are naturally much more difficult to find in high grade than their 1915 counterparts because the 1914 #144 series cards were only issued in boxes of Cracker Jack, while the 1915 set could be obtained as a factory set directly from the company by mail. Cobb is featured on this card in a batting pose set against a deep red background. Bright and crisp, both front and back, with just a hint of very light honest caramel staining along the right border and on the reverse, which is to be expected with 1914 #144 Series Cracker Jack. 1914 Cracker Jacks, of course, are almost always found with serious caramel staining, but this example has far less than commonly found with cards from this series, and is simply magnificent in all respects. It has outstanding color, an extremely bold red background, and light, even wear on the corners. Centered 40/60 left to right. If not for the light crease near the upper left corner (more visible on the reverse) this card would have received a higher grade from SGC. This is a very rarely offered and ideal high-grade example of the most important of all Cracker Jack or Ty Cobb cards, and one that would be a significant highlight in any world-class collection of 1914 Cracker Jack, Ty Cobb, or classic vintage baseball cards. The equivalent SMR value is $5,650 (which we feel is very conservative). Reserve $1,500. Estimate $3,000/$5,000+. SOLD FOR $8,888
