1914 E145 Cracker Jack #57 Walter Johnson - SGC EX/NM 80
Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $7,110
Graded EX/NM 80 by SGC. One of only three examples graded at this level by SGC, with just three graded higher. The 1914 Cracker Jack is understandably one of Walter Johnson's most desirable and popular cards. This is a gorgeous pack-fresh example of this card in especially high grade for any 1914 Cracker Jack (as opposed to 1915), let alone for a key Hall of Famer. The 1914 Cracker Jacks are far rarer to find in high grade than their 1915 counterparts, because the 1914 #144 series cards were only issued in boxes of Cracker Jack (and therefore almost always have condition problems, including caramel staining). Johnson, of course, is one of the significant key cards in the set, along with Cobb, Jackson, Wagner, and Mathewson. This is particularly strong card in all respects. The card is well centered, with outstanding color, perfect registration, an extremely bold red background, and very strong corners that display just the slightest hint of light, even wear. Bright and clean, both front and back, with just the slightest hint of caramel staining (far less than usually found on #144 series cards, very difficult to even see). The card has an appearance even stronger than its remarkable and technically accurate Ex-Mt grade, and would be a highlight addition to any world-class collection of Cracker Jack, Walter Johnson, or vintage Hall of Fame cards. The equivalent SMR value is $5,000. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000/$4,000+. SOLD FOR $7,110
