1916 M101-4 Herpolsheimer #91 Walter Johnson (1:1)
Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $2,370
Graded EX/NM 80 by SGC. Only "1 of 1" graded by SGC with no other examples at any level graded by SGC. Hands-above-head pose of Hall of Fame pitcher Walter Johnson M101-4 with rare Herpolsheimer Company back. This was saved by the grandfather of our consignor. His family originally lived in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and his grandfather personally got this card in 1916 directly from the Herpolsheimer Company. Perfectly clean, both front and back, with four sharp corners, bright and crisp image, and a boldly printed advertisement on the reverse. Though graded a very impressive EX/NM 80 by SGC, we grade this card slightly higher at NR/MT. This is a gorgeous card, and one of just a few that we have separated from the balance of the crisp, uncirculated set to be offered individually. This is an extraordinary high-grade card that would be a significant addition to any Walter Johnson or prewar Hall of Fame card collection. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000+. SOLD FOR $2,370
