1949 Bowman Complete Set Minus 1 (239 of 240)

Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $4,444

60% range from Vg-Ex to Ex-Mt (averaging Ex), and 40% Gd to Vg (with a few lesser). This is an extremely attractive mid-grade complete set of 1949 Bowman (missing only #84 Campanella for completion), one of the most popular and classic of all baseball card sets. While the condition of cards from this set spans several grades, even the lesser-graded cards are very pleasing and exhibit bright colors and crisp focus. Many rookie cards of Hall of Famers are featured in this classic postwar issue, highlighted by Richie Ashburn, Duke Snider, Robin Roberts, Early Wynn, and Bob Lemon. We have selected six cards to be graded and encapsulated by SGC. Keys: #1 Bickford (Vg), 11 Boudreau (Vg-Ex), 23 Doerr (Ex), 24 Musial (Gd-Vg), 26 Kell (Ex), 27 Feller (Vg), 29 Kiner (Vg-Ex), 33 Spahn (Vg), 36 Reese (SGC VG/EX 50), 46 Roberts RC (SGC VG/EX 50), 50 Robinson (SGC Authentic, slight trim), 60 Berra (SGC EX 60), 65 Slaughter (Vg-Ex), 70 Furillo RC (Ex), 85a Mize NNOF (Ex), 98a Rizzuto NNOF (Gd), 100 Hodges RC (Vg), 110 Wynn RC (SGC EX 60), 111 Schoendienst (Gd), 162 Roe RC (Vg-Ex), 175 Appling (Gd), 194 Branca RC (Vg-Ex), 209 Keller (Vg), 210 Gordon (Vg), 214 Ashburn RC (Vg-Ex), 224 Paige (SGC VG 40), 225 Coleman RC (Vg), 226 Snider RC (Pr), 229 Lopat RC (Gd), 233 Doby (Vg), and 238 Lemon RC (Gd). 1949 Bowman is the most underrated set in terms of rarity among Topps and Bowman sets issued between 1948 and 1955. We rarely see 1949 Bowman sets, let alone relatively affordable sets that are in such clean and consistent condition. This is a beautiful set as is, and with some upgrades this is a set that could easily provide the foundation for a very strong 1949 Bowman set. Total: 239 cards. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000+.
