1950s Royal Desserts Unopened Boxes Collection (5)
Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $1,778
In 1950, if you were walking down the supermarket aisle, you would have seen unopened boxes of Royal Desserts, exactly as offered in this lot: the front displaying the company logos and the reverse featuring a package-design card (intended to be cut from the box) with an illustration of a famous star. One dedicated collector had the foresight to realize what a remarkable collectible this would someday be and he kept a few boxes intact and unopened. These boxes have been carefully guarded from the elements and the dessert tray for over sixty years! Offered is a collection of five unopened boxes of Royal Desserts puddings, pie fillings, and gelatin desserts, each featuring a different famous individual on the reverse (three baseball: #9 Blackwell, 15 Rojek, and 19 Sisler; two actors: #5 Blyth and 36 Hope), preserved in a most improbable and original state. We can't imagine that too many boxes have survived unopened like this. The boxes (3-1/2 x 2-7/8 x 1-1/8 inches) show normal shelf wear and a few minor creases. In Excellent condition overall. The boxes are accompanied by a single hand-cut card of basketball HOFer #8 Buddy Jeanette and two newspaper advertisements (one features Stan Musial) promoting the then just-released Royal Desserts trading cards. Royal Desserts are rarely seen in original unopened form and it is therefore difficult for us to provide a meaningful value estimate. Total: 6 items (5 boxes and one card). Reserve $300. Estimate $500++. SOLD FOR $1,778
