1958 Bell Brand Potato Chips Dodgers SGC-Graded Complete Set (10)
Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $4,444
Exceptional high-grade complete ten-card set of 1958 Bell Brand Potato Chips cards. This very scarce and distinctive set featuring Dodgers players was issued regionally only in the Los Angeles area to commemorate the Dodgers' first season on the West Coast. One card was packaged in a thin cellophane wrapper with each bag of Bell Brand Potato Chips. As a result of the product with which they were packaged, heavy grease stains and creases are common with this issue, making it all the more difficult to assemble a high-grade set. Each card has been graded and encapsulated by SGC (all submitted by REA). The set includes one NM/MT 88, two NM 84s, four EX/NM 80s, two EX 60s, and one VG/EX 50. From a very old-time collection, this set has been stored away in a closet for decades, possibly since its year of issue. This is an extraordinary set. The SGC grades are as follows: One NM/MT 88: Hodges. Two NM 84: Campanella and Reese. Four EX/MT 80: Drysdale, Gilliam, Koufax, and Podres. Two EX 60: Cimoli and Zimmer. One VG/EX 50: Snider (Ex-Mt appearance downgraded for a minor bend). The equivalent SMR value for the individual cards (not including Snider graded VG/EX 50) is $3,355. Total: 10 cards. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000+. SOLD FOR $4,444
