1964 Topps Coins Complete PSA-Graded Master Set (167 coins) 7.65 GPA!

Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $3,259

Presented is a simply extraordinary ultra high-grade complete master set of 1964 Topps Coins (164 different plus three variations, for a total of 167 coins). These metal coins were issued as special insert premiums by Topps in some baseball card wax packs (one coin per pack). The set features all the major stars of the era including Mantle (three different), Mays, Clemente, Aaron, Koufax, Banks, Rose, Yastrzemski, and many more. Each coin measures 1-1/2 inches in diameter and has been graded and encapsulated by PSA. Grading Composite: The set includes eight MINT 9s, 113 NM-MT 8s, thirty-six NM 7s, five EX-MT 6s, four EX 5s, and one VG-EX 4. The PSA registry overall weighted GPA rating is 7.65. These coins were issued just one coin per wax pack. Assembling a set in 1964 must have been murder. The set has long been overlooked and because of grading is now just beginning to receive the attention that it deserves. As suggested by the individual grades, this is an incredible set. The PSA grades are as follows: Eight MINT 9: #17, 45, 67, 98, 100 Kaline, 125 B. Robinson AS, 148, and 158. 113 NM-MT 8: #1 Zimmer, 3, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 14, 15, 16, 18 B. Robinson, 19, 20, 21, 23, 24, 25, 26 Yastrzemski, 27 Mazeroski, 30, 34 Drysdale, 35, 36 Marichal, 37 F. Five EX-MT 6: #11, 28, 62, 82 Rose, and 94. Four EX 5: #4, 44 B. Williams, 92, and 161 (NL on back). One VG-EX 4: #64. 1964 Topps coins are very susceptible to scratches because their designs are printed directly onto the metal. This condition sensitivity makes the incredible condition of these examples all the more noteworthy. Coins are just beginning to be graded. It will be interesting to see how the market will evolve in the years to come for examples in the highest grades from the most popular baseball coin sets. It is our experience that a vintage set such as this, in such extraordinary high grade, may be valued by the market at a significant premium to guide prices. We are already seeing this with 1964 Topps coins, which are among the most overlooked of all significant Topps issues. Based on recent auction results of individual 1964 Topps coins, the break value for this set is extremely substantial. The SMR value for the individual coins (not including the one VG-EX 4) is $2,776. Total: 167 coins. Reserve $500. Estimate $2,000+. SOLD FOR $3,259
