1911 T205 Gold Border Complete SGC-Graded Set (208 Plus 6 Variations)

Starting Bid - $5,000, Sold For - $29,625

Presented is an exceptionally attractive complete set of 208 cards (plus six variations for a total of 214 cards), all graded and encapsulated by SGC (all submitted at the same time by REA for grading). Missing only the following seven variations for a complete master set: #32a Chase (both ears - frame extends), 90a Hoblitzell (no stats), 90c Hoblitzel (name incorrect, No Cin. after 1908), 90d Hoblitzell (name correct, No Cin. after 1908), 124a Mathewson (1 Loss variation), 197a Wallace (no cap - one line of 1910 stats), and 202a Wilhelm ("suffered" in 18th line of bio).

The T205 Gold Borders set is universally recognized as one of the most classic of all tobacco-card issues and includes all the great stars of the era and many rarities that make this set one of the most challenging and difficult-to-complete of all tobacco-card sets. The set includes four EX/NM 80, five EX+ 70, thirty-five EX 60, forty-eight VG/EX 50, fifty-three VG 40, thirty GOOD 30, nineteen FAIR 20, five POOR 10, and fifteen Authentic. This is a gorgeous set, rarely offered in complete-set form in such high grade. As anyone who has seen graded T205s can verify, T205s tend to be graded very harshly, especially when graded by SGC, and almost all of these cards have an appearance far superior to their assigned grades. This complete set has been very carefully assembled by an extremely dedicated advanced collector over a period of many years, and represents a tremendous collecting achievement.

In the following condition composite, cards are identified by the numbers provided in the Standard Catalog of Baseball Cards checklist.
