1934 New York Yankees Team-Signed Ball with Ruth, Gehrig, Grimes, and Seven Other Hall of Famers!

Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $14,220

Addendum: It has been brought to our attention that the 1931, 1932, and 1933 New York Yankee clubs also boasted a roster of ten future Hall of Famers (managers and coaches included).

Remarkable 1934 New York Yankees team-signed ball featuring an amazing ten Hall of Fame signatures. The official American League (Harridge) ball has been signed in black fountain pen by the following twenty-five members of the 1934 New York Yankees: Ruth (sweet spot, grading "8/9"), Gehrig ("8"), McCarthy (Mgr.), Gomez, Grimes, Ruffing, Dickey, Lazzeri, Combs, Sewell (coach), Byrd, Saltzgaver, Jorgens, Heffner, DeShong, Walker, Allen, Crosetti, Rolfe, Hoag, Van Atta, Broaca, Murphy, MacFayden, and Chapman. Signatures range from "5" to "8/9," averaging "6/7." The signature of Hall of Fame pitcher Burleigh Grimes on this ball not only conclusively dates it to 1934 (Grimes only played with the Yankees in that one season), but also makes it a very rare 1934 Yankees team-signed example. Grimes began the year with the Cardinals before being traded to the Yankees early in the season. His stay in New York was quite short, as he appeared in only ten games with the club before being traded once again to the Pirates. This is a tremendous and rare signed team ball: not only is it just the fourth 1934 Yankees team ball featuring Grimes' signature that we can ever recall offering, but the first to feature ten Hall of Fame signatures as well. No other team in history other than the 1934 New York Yankees can claim ten Hall of Famers on its roster (managers and coaches included) and the fact that this ball features the signatures of all of them is nothing short of incredible. 1934 was a historic year for the Yankees in that it marked Babe Ruth's final season with the club and bore witness to Gehrig's greatest season. While Ruth went out quietly, with his lowest home-run total (22) in fifteen seasons with the Yankees, Gehrig finally emerged from Ruth's shadow by winning the Triple Crown, posting league-leading totals in batting average (.363), home runs (49), and RBI (165). This is an exceptional New York Yankees team ball featuring not only particularly outstanding Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig signatures, but the signatures of an extraordinary ten future Hall of Famers. The ball has been coated with a layer of protective shellac, the surface of which displays a few minor chips/abrasions. All of the manufacturer's stampings are bold and legible. In Very Good to Excellent condition overall. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $4,000++. SOLD FOR $14,220
