1950 Honus Wagner Single-Signed Ball
Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $2,015
Official National League (Frick) ball signed by Honus Wagner on the sweet spot. Wagner has scripted his name in blue fountain pen, with the signature grading "7." A blue fountain-pen inscription on an adjacent side panel reads "Best Wishes/To/Bill/1950." Wagner was in his penultimate season as a coach with the Pirates in 1950, having served the club in that capacity since 1933. The ball is moderately soiled, including a number of light abrasions and scratches that are indicative of game use. James Spence/JSA notes that the ball has an abrasion on the north panel and therefore a possible signature removal is undetermined. The manufacturer's stampings are light, but mostly legible. In Very Good condition overall. Honus Wagner single-signed balls have always been highly prized by collectors, with nearly all known examples dating from his post-playing career. This is a solid mid-grade example and one that would be a welcome addition to any advanced Hall of Fame single-signed ball collection. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$1,500.
