1960 Fleer All-Time Greats Autographed Card Collection (26), with Williams, Sisler, Grove, and Schalk

Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $1,659

This collection of twenty-six autographed 1960 Fleer All-Time Greats cards features twenty-five Hall of Famers, plus Marty Marion. Comprised of the following: #4 Carl Hubbell, 12 Zack Wheat (personalized "To Billy"), 13 George Sisler, 16 Lou Boudreau, 17 Ernie Lombardi, 18 Heinie Manush, 19 Marty Marion, 26 Bob Feller, 27 Luke Appling, 34 Sam Rice, 38 Johnny Mize, 52 Bill Terry, 54 Lefty Gomez, 56 Ray Schalk (personalized "To Billy"), 58 Charlie Gehringer, 59 Burleigh Grimes, 60 Lefty Grove, 63 Red Ruffing, 68 Hal Newhouser, 69 Waite Hoyt, 71 Earl Averill, 72 Ted Williams, 73 Warren Giles, 74 Ford Frick, 78 Lloyd Waner, and 79 Ralph Kiner. All of the signatures, penned in a variety of inks, appear on the front and grade "9" or "10" with the exception of Giles ("5"). Cards range from Vg to Ex-Mt, averaging Vg-Ex. This is a far more substantial collection of autographed cards than its modest number might at first suggest. Only thirty-nine of the eighty cards in the set could theoretically exist autographed, since forty-nine of the featured players (such as Babe Ruth and Cy Young) were deceased before the set was issued. Of the thirteen missing cards that could have been signed, a few were of players who died between the year of issue and 1967. Ty Cobb, for example, passed away in July 1961; Bobo Newsom died in 1962, etc. Some of these players may have never signed their 1960 Fleer cards. This is a great-looking group of one of the best sets for Hall of Fame signature collecting, and is a very strong foundation for the assembly of a complete collection of all 1960 Fleer All-Time Greats cards that could possible be signed. Total: 26 cards. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $200. Estimate $400/$800. SOLD FOR $1,659
