Incredible group of four original artworks from the 1955 Topps "Rails and Sails" set! These are the actual paintings used to produce the following four cards in the set: #65 Casey Jones' Loco (Illinois Central RR), #105 Narrow Gauge (Sandy River Railroad circa 1910), #146 East Indiaman (English Merchant Ship), and #169 Oil Tanker (Seagoing Gas Station). The gorgeous color and amazing detail on each artwork make this set stand out as one of the most highly regarded and beautiful non-sport card sets ever produced. The 200-card 1955 "Topps Rails and Sails" set features 130 railroad locomotives and cars and 70 types of sailing vessels, with an astounding commitment to detail and historical accuracy. These are amazing artworks. Each is a masterpiece. Three of the four cards are accompanied by examples of the issued cards. These artworks were purchased at the famous 1989 Topps/Guernsey's auction, and have been consigned to this auction directly from the original purchaser. Original artwork from this set is extremely rare. Each painting measures 3.5 x 5 inches.
