Sheet music for the The Base Ball Fever , composed by H. Angelo, published in 1867 by Marsh & Bubna, Philadelphia. This is both an early and rare baseball sheet music, of special note to nineteenth-century collectors for its game-in-progress cover illustration, which makes it ideal for display. The exquisitely rendered artwork encompasses the entire diamond and also depicts the team's clubhouse in the background. As noted in print below the title, this song was dedicated "To Lew Simmons Esq." Simmons was one of the most popular minstrel performers of his time and also a baseball enthusiast. In 1882 Simmons served as owner of Philadelphia's entry in the American Association and in 1886 he took a more hands-on approach by serving as the club's manager. The sheet music (9.5 x 12 inches) displays a few light stains along the left border, light foxing, and minor surface wear. The central image area is free of any significant flaws and presents as Excellent. In apparent Very Good condition overall. Beautifully matted and framed to total dimensions of 15 x 17 inches. Reserve $200. Estimate $400+. SOLD FOR $1,175
