Striking high-grade complete twelve-card set of 1927 W. A. & A. C. Churchman "Famous Golfers - Series of 12" cards, highlighted by the legendary Bobby Jones. Each card has been graded and encapsulated by SGC (except one PSA). The set includes one SGC NM+ 86, five NM 84s (including Vardon), one PSA EX-MT+ 6.5 (Jones), three EX/NM 80s (including Hagen), one EX+ 70, and one EX 60. Inscribed as "Series of 12" on the reverse, this large-card variety of Famous Golfers is extremely rare and compliments its 50-card smaller version of the same year. Most advanced collectors would agree that this larger-card variety is about 25 times as rare as the scarce smaller version. This is an extraordinary set assembled by a very dedicated golf-card collector. The SGC grades are as follows: One NM+ 86: #10 Taylor (HOF). Five NM 84: #5 Herd, 6 Holderness, 8 Mitchell, 9 Ray, and 11 Vardon (HOF). One PSA EX-MT+ 6.5: #7 Jones (HOF). Three EX/NM 80: #1 Ball (HOF), 3 Duncan, and 4 Hagen (HOF). One EX+ 70: #2 Braid (HOF). One EX 60: #12 Wethered (HOF). Compared to vintage baseball cards, golf cards are beginning to be recognized as offering an outstanding value. This is a remarkable high-grade complete set of one of the most highly prized golf sets of the era. The equivalent SMR value for the individual cards is $4,555 (there is no SMR value for the NM+ 7.5, EX-MT+ 6.5, or EX+ 5.5 grades, so the value of the three examples graded at these levels were calculated using the NM 7, EX-MT 6, and EX 5 values). Total: 12 cards. Reserve $500. Estimate $2,000+. SOLD FOR $2,666
