Collection of thirty-four identical large-format photos (13 x 18 inches), each signed on the front in black marker (grading "9/10") by Olympic gold-medalist swimmer Michael Phelps. The photo captures Phelps celebrating after winning his first gold medal in a team event at the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics. Phelps, of course, won a record eight gold medals at the 2008 Summer Olympics, five individual and three team, surpassing the mark set by American swimmer Mark Spitz in 1972. Phelps also won six gold and two bronze medals at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, with his total of fourteen gold medals a record for any Olympic athlete. These photos were originally signed by Phelps for a promotional campaign shortly after the 2008 Summer Olympics. Our consignor worked closely with Phelps' agent on the project, and when it was finished she was allowed to keep all of the non-framed photos that were not used in the campaign. They have remained in her possession since that time. Nearly all of the photos display minor handling wear along the corners and edges; otherwise in Near Mint condition overall. This is the largest collection of Michael Phelps signed photos we have ever seen at public auction and one that offers outstanding "break" value, especially given the enormous size of each photo.
