Vintage Popeye Toy Collection (7) with Battery-Operated "Popeye and Rowboat"

This collection of seven vintage Popeye toys includes four manufactured by the Linemar Company, Inc., of Japan, highlighted by the rare battery-operated "Popeye and Rowboat." 1) The "Popeye and Rowboat" is one of the rarest of all battery-operated toys and one of the "keys" for any advanced Popeye toy collection. The offered example displays moderate abrasions on the underside and, unfortunately, the wire connecting the rowboat to the control unit has broken off at the point of attachment to the unit. Without regard to the broken wire, the piece remains in Excellent condition overall. 4 inches high; 10 inches long. 2) "Popeye Cyclist" tin windup toy by Linemar. In working order, with windup key and pipe. Excellent condition. 6.75 inches high. Accompanied by the original box (7 x 5 x 2.5 inches). The underside displays surface paper loss and there are a few minor creases throughout. Very Good to Excellent condition. 3) "Popeye Roller Skater" tin windup toy by Linemar. In working order, with windup key and pipe. The cloth pants are slightly discolored and display a small tear at the base; otherwise in Excellent to Mint condition overall. 6.75 inches high. Accompanied by the original box (7 x 4.5 x 3 inches). The box displays a few small tears and there is a five digit number written in blue ink on an end panel. Very Good condition. 4) "Popeye Tank" tin windup toy by Linemar. In working order, with windup key. Excellent condition. 3 inches high; 4 inches long. Accompanied by the original box (2.75 x 2.5 x 4 inches). Top flap missing; two top side flaps detached. Fair condition. 5) "Popeye Drummer" tin toy by Chein. The toy is manually operated by pushing down on a lever on the reverse. Complete with metal easel back. Very Good condition. 6.5 inches high. 6) "Popeye Daily Quarter Register Bank" by Kalon Mfg. The tin bank, which accepts quarters, opens automatically once ten dollars' worth of coins has been inserted. Excellent condition. 3.5 x 2.5 x 4.5 inches. Accompanied by the original box (4 x 3 x 5 inches). Slight staining on the lid and light foxing on one side panel; Very Good to Excellent condition. 7) "Popeye Motorcycle Racer" cast-iron toy. Very Good condition. 5.5 inches long. Total: 7 toys (3 with original boxes). Reserve $500. Estimate $1,500+. SOLD FOR $3,555
