1940s-1950s Superman Toy Collection (5) with Battery-Operated "Superman Tank" in Original Box

Collection of five vintage toys capitalizing on the popularity of the famed "Man of Steel." 1) 1950s battery-operated "Superman Tank" manufactured by the Linemar Company, Inc., of Japan. This is the highlight of the group and one of the premier Superman toys from the era. Both the tank and Superman figure display a number of minor scratches and "dings." In Very Good condition. 4.75 inches long; 7.75 inches long. Accompanied by the rare original box (8.5 x 5 x 5.5). The top cover of the box has been trimmed approximately 1.25 inches along the entire base. Numerous tears are evident throughout, but there is no paper loss and the colorful graphics still display beautifully. Technically in Fair condition, but presents as Very Good. 2) Circa 1940 "Superman Roll-Over Plane tin windup toy by Marx. This toy was issued in a number of different plane colors. The offered example,which is in working order, is the red variety and displays wear commensurate with its age and former use. In Very Good to Excellent condition. 3.5 inches high; 5 inches long. Accompanied by the original box (5.5 x 5.5 x 3.5 inches). The top flap has detached and been reapplied with tape. A number of creases and minor tears are evident throughout, and the name "Theresa" is written on the front in pencil. In Good condition. 3) "Superman Tank" tin windup toy by Linemar. Heavy use. Good condition. 3 inches high; 4 inches long. 4) Circa 1940s Superman doll produced by the Ideal Toy & Novelty Company. The doll features a composition head and torso, with jointed wooden extremities and a red cloth cape. Numerous cracks are evident on the torso and face, with the face also displaying a few tiny chips and flaking to the paint. Good condition. 13 inches tall. 5) Circa 1946 "Superman in Movie Style" viewer and film boxes in original retail display box. The colorful die-cut counter-display box houses one plastic film viewer and three film boxes that offered kids the chance to "turn the knob and see Superman in action." The back panel features three separate illustrations of Superman, while the front and rear side panels picture a number of scenes of Superman in action. The film boxes offered here once housed films number 2, 3, and 4; however, the films are no longer present. The plastic film viewer is in Excellent to Mint condition, while the three individual film boxes are in Excellent condition. The display box has a number of creases to the back panel and a few small tears throughout. A few stray pencil notations are also visible on the back panel. In Good to Very Good condition overall. 7 x 5 x 6 inches (with the back panel raised up). Total: 5 items. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,500+. SOLD FOR $3,851
