1908 PC760 T. R. Rose Postcard Collection (7) - All Scranton Players

  • Sold For: $1,896
  • Year: 1908
  • Auction: 2013 Fall
  • Lot #: 353
  • Auction Category: Prewar Baseball - Early 1900s Cards

Offered are seven exceedingly rare PC760 Rose Postcards featuring exclusively members of the minor-league Scranton Club of the New York State League. Among advanced collectors, Rose Postcards are regarded as one of the most striking and magnificently designed baseball-card sets ever produced. PC760 Rose Postcards feature black-and-white portraits set inside a gold embossed frame with the player's name and team printed inside a rectangular nameplate at the foot of the frame, all against a striking green background. The set features predominantly Major League players with a small sampling of minor-league players included from the Scranton franchise. This collection has been consigned by the family of an old-time extremely advanced collector (now deceased) who had a great interest in both vintage postcards and in Scranton baseball, and represents the duplicates of his larger collection of PC760 Scranton players offered in this auction. All seven cards in this collection have been graded and encapsulated by PSA as Authentic due to evidence of recoloration. They all present as Vg to Vg-Ex with four cards postally used. This collection consists of the following: Two Beckendorf, Billis, Graham, Houser, Moran, and Steele. The cards in this collection are all bright and crisp and present at a superior level compared to their accurate grades, which reflect light color retouching in the corners. This is a very attractive group of extremely rare cards from one of the most ornate and desirable prewar postcard sets in existence. Total: 7 cards. Reserve $400. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $1,896
