Presented is a complete set of 1909-1911 E91 American Caramel Company cards, consisting of all ninety-nine cards and highlighted by twenty-seven Hall of Famers. Issued by American Caramel over a period of three years, the cards in the E91 American Caramel Company set are classified as set A, B, and C, with each series consisting of thirty-three cards. Each series is distinguishable by the reverse which provides a checklist for E91 subset A, B, or C. (Each 33-card series features eleven players from each of three different teams). The E91 set is sometimes referred to as the "fake design" set because the company used generic illustrations, rather than actual likenesses, of ballplayers. Thus, the exact same drawing (with team change on uniform) was used for two or three different players in the set. We have selected three cards to be graded by SGC. The set includes the following: E91A (33 cards): Bender (Gd), Bresnahan (Gd+), Brown (EX 60), Chance (Gd), Collins (Pr), Evers (Gd), Mathewson (Gd), McGinnity (possible slight trim, Vg), McGraw (Fr), Plank (trimmed), Tinker (Vg+), and Waddell (Pr). The balance grades fourteen Vg to Vg-Ex, five Gd, and two trimmed. E91B (33 cards): Baker (Fr), Bender (trimmed, otherwise Pr), Brown (Vg), Chance (Vg), Collins (Fr), Evers (Pr), Marquard (Fr), Mathewson (Fr), McGraw (Vg), Plank (VG 40), and Tinker (trimmed, otherwise Vg-Ex). The balance grades fourteen Vg, five Fr to Gd, and three trimmed. E91C (33 cards): Clarke (Vg-Ex). Hooper (Vg), Johnson (Fr), Speaker (VG 40), Wagner (Fr), and Willis (Vg-Ex). The balance grades twenty-one Vg to Vg-Ex, four Gd, one Pr, and one trimmed. The cards in the offered set, though in many cases technically modest in grade, are overall actually in much higher grade than normally encountered for E91s, with even the modestly graded examples presenting at a superior level and mostly downgraded due to technical flaws on the reverse. Bold colors and crisp images throughout. E91 is also a set that is very rarely encountered in set form at all. In fact, this is the first complete set of E91 American Caramel Company cards that we have ever offered! This is a very attractive complete set from one of the most interesting and distinctive of all caramel-card sets, highlighted by more than two dozen Hall of Famers. This set has been consigned directly from the family of legendary pioneer collector Paul Pollard. Total: 99 cards. Reserve $1,000. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $7,703
