1910 E286 Ju-Ju Drums Rube Ellis

  • Sold For: $720
  • Year: 1910
  • Auction: 2015 fall
  • Lot #: 70
  • Auction Category: Prewar Baseball Cards (1900-1941)

Graded GOOD+ 35 by SGC (submitted by REA). Extremely rare sample card of Rube Ellis (St. Louis Cardinals) from the E286 Ju-Ju Drums issue. This is only the second example of a Ju-Ju Drum (of any subject, in any condition) that we have offered in the last twenty years! Similar in appearance to the E254 Colgan's Chips issue, these disc-like cards (which measure 1-7/16 inches in diameter) were issued in 1910 with Ju-Ju Drum candy and present a black-and-white player image on front with company advertising on the reverse. This example is crisp and clean with a boldly printed reverse and presents at a level far superior to its assigned grade. It appears to have been downgraded due to light, unobtrusive chipping along the reverse edge. One of only forty-six cards in total from this set graded by SGC to date. This is an extremely attractive example which would be a superb addition to any prewar or sample-card collection.  Reserve $200. Estimate (open).
