1909 E92 Dockman & Sons Honus Wagner - Batting PSA EX 5

  • Sold For: $3,900
  • Year: 1909
  • Auction: 2015 spring
  • Lot #: 175
  • Auction Category: Prewar Baseball Cards (1900-1941)

Graded EX 5 by PSA. One of only five examples graded at this level with just two higher out of thirty-five cards evaluated by PSA to date. A rare caramel issue from 1909, the Dockman & Sons set shares designs with several other closely related candy issues (Croft's Candy, Nadja Caramels, etc.) from the same era. The offered example of Hall of Famer Honus Wagner (batting pose) is in exceptionally high grade. It is easy to see why this is recognized as one of the most striking and classic of all Wagner cards. This is a very attractive card! Bright and clean, with perfect registration, light, even wear on the corners (slightly more in the lower right), vibrant colors, and well centered. The back is also bright and clean, with very bold text. Caramel cards are rarely found in high grade. This is an extraordinary example in strong Excellent condition of the legendary Honus Wagner from this rare, early twentieth-century candy issue. Reserve $800. Estimate $1,500/$2,500. SOLD FOR $3,900
