Chester, NJ - September 23, 2024 - REA’s September Encore Auction closed Sunday night with a 1952 Topps #312 Jackie Robinson High Number SGC NM/MT 8 hammering down for $75,000. It was the highest SGC-graded example of the card to come to public auction in more than two years.
In an event filled with record-setting prices, two featured items rewrote the market for their respective cards. A 1910 E103 Williams Caramel Ty Cobb PSA VG-EX 4 sold for $40,800 and a 1950 Bowman #46 Yogi Berra PSA MINT 9, only one of three examples graded at this level by PSA with none higher, sold for $33,600.
With Shohei Ohtani becoming the first 50/50 player in Major League history on Thursday night, there’s been a sharp increase in both the interest and, as a result, the prices of the two-time MVP’s cards. Such was the case for a 2018 Topps High Tek Autograph Shohei Ohtani Rookie Black & White #5/40 BGS PRISTINE 10 with a GEM MINT 10 signature that sold for $22,800.
That wasn’t the only modern item that did well, as a 2023 Panini Prizm Football #339 C.J. Stroud Rookie Snakeskin PSA GEM MINT 10 sold for $15,000, the highest-selling football item in the auction.
The event included almost 3,600 items, received in excess of 74,600 bids, and generated nearly $1.7 million in sales.
Some of the other top sales in REA’s September Auction included:
- 1907 Wolverine News Postcard Ty Cobb Portrait Rookie PSA VG 3 - 1 of 3 - Highest Graded! - $43,200 (highest sale in 2+ years and second-highest sale of this card of all-time)

“It’s very exciting when we see the top results of our events encompass a variety of different items like we did in our September Encore,” said Brian Dwyer, President of REA. “We had some iconic vintage items that set new records along with several modern cards, specifically current superstars, that had very strong results.”
REA’s penultimate event of 2024 will be its October Encore Auction that opens on October 10. Its much-anticipated Fall Catalog Auction will follow that, kicking off on November 22. You can request a catalog here.
