Vintage Classics and GOAT Rookies Lead REA November Encore Auction

Chester, NJ - November 18, 2024 - The REA November Encore Auction closed Sunday night, and the top results were two of the hobby’s most iconic cards. A 1933 R319 Goudey #53 Babe Ruth SGC EX 5  sold for $37,200 and a 1952 Topps #311 Mickey Mantle PSA POOR 1 sold for $32,400. The 1951 Bowman rookie cards of Mickey Mantle in a PSA EX 5 sold for $24,000 and Willie Mays in a PSA EX-MT 6 sold for $22,200. 

Vintage baseball classics were not the only top sellers in this event. A 2000 Playoff Contenders #144 Tom Brady Rookie Ticket Autograph BGS NM-MT+ 8.5 with a GEM MINT 10 signature sold for $17,400 while a 1986-1987 Fleer Basketball #57 Michael Jordan Rookie PSA MINT 9 sold for $16,200.  

The event tallied more than 60,000 bids across more than 3,200 lots.

1915 E106 American Caramel Honus Wagner Batting SGC VG 3 - $11,700

1915 E106 American Caramel Honus Wagner Throwing SGC GOOD 30 - $10,200

1954 Red Heart Dog Food Mickey Mantle SGC NM/MT 8 - $9,000

2018 Bowman's Best #B18-SO Shohei Ohtani Rookie Autographed Green Refractor #91/99 PSA GEM MINT 10 - $7,500

“This was another outstanding event for us and a great sign for the hobby that the interest and appetite for both vintage and modern across different sports remains very strong” said REA President Brian Dwyer. “We’re excited about the results across the board as we head into our final auction of the year.”

REA’s much-anticipated Fall Catalog Auction will start later this week, running from November 22 through December 8. The event will include some incredibly rare items, most notably a newly discovered 1916 M101-4/5 Morehouse Baking #151 Babe Ruth Rookie PSA VG+ 3.5 (part of a collection of more than 100 other Morehouse Baking cards offered in the auction) and a newly discovered 1909-1911 T206 white border Ty Cobb portrait red background SGC GOOD+ 2.5 with an extremely rare Ty Cobb back.
