Sold For: $29,625
Year: 1915
Auction: 2012 Spring
Lot #: 8
Auction: Prewar Baseball - E Candy Cards
Graded NM/MT+ 92 by SGC. One of only two examples graded at this level by SGC. Extraordinary ultra high-grade factory-set-fresh example of what many consider the most classic of all Ty Cobb cards. This is the highest-graded 1915 Cracker Jack Ty Cobb example we have ever seen or offered. The Ty Cobb Cracker Jack is one of vintage-card collecting's greatest classics, very high on every list of iconic cards symbolizing the great appeal of vintage baseball-card collecting. This is an incredible high-grade gem, and without question one of the finest examples in existence. The 1915 Cracker Jack is universally recognized to be one of Ty Cobb"™s most striking and popular cards. We have always thought this is what a Ty Cobb card is supposed to look like! It is also one of the most famous and highly prized cards in all of vintage-card collecting. The "Georgia Peach" is one of the three key cards in the Cracker Jack set, along with Jackson and Wagner. The offered card is absolutely pristine, crisp, and perfectly fresh, with flawless registration, four sharp corners, and very well centered, with a very slight picture tilt (which is a natural characteristic of the card). The red color of the background is particularly deep and bold. The reverse is perfectly clean with bold black text. This card was obviously once from an original factory set obtained by mail directly from the company. If not for the subtle picture tilt (of no consequence and natural to the card), perhaps this card would grade Mint. In our opinion, one could not ask for more from a 1915 Cracker Jack Ty Cobb. This card leaves nothing to be desired. It is a gem in every way! Any short list of card collecting's greatest and most recognizable icons would include Ty Cobb's Cracker Jack card. This is one of the finest examples in existence of one of card collecting's undisputed classics. The SMR value for a PSA NM-MT 8 is $23,000 (there is no SMR value for NM-MT+ 8.5 grades, so we have listed the NM-MT 8 value). Reserve $10,000. Estimate $20,000++. SOLD FOR $29,625
