1955 Topps #123 Sandy Koufax Rookie PSA MINT 9

Sold For: $156,000
Year: 1955
Auction: 2017 Spring
Lot #: 13
Auction: Featured
Graded MINT 9 by PSA. Only three examples grade higher out of 6,440 cards evaluated to date by PSA. Spectacular ultra-high-grade rookie card of Hall of Famer Sandy Koufax from the extremely popular 1955 Topps issue. This is the finest example of this classic card that we have ever seen or offered! The card displays four pack-fresh corners, bold colors, and a flawless yellow background with no print lines whatsoever, which is a common problem with this card, as well as many other 1955 Topps cards. The centering is exceptional, near-perfect all the way around. Clean and boldly printed reverse. This card is superb in every way, entirely deserving of its MINT status. Koufax is one of the key cards to the 1955 Topps set and is one of three key Hall of Fame rookies making their Topps debut that year (Clemente and Killebrew are the other two). The market for 1955 Topps #123 Koufax rookies in general appear to be on an upward swing - especially for extremely high quality examples. Recently, an ultra-high-grade example soared to new heights, with a sale of $215,100 reported for a PSA MINT 9 in August 2016. This is a stunning example of Sandy Koufax’s rookie card, in extremely high grade, is one of the most popular and classic of all 1950s bubble-gum cards, and would be a worthy addition to any world-class Sandy Koufax, Hall of Fame rookie, or classic-card collection. Reserve $25,000. Estimate (open).
