Graded NM 84 by SGC. Submitted for grading by REA. Presented is an extraordinary ultra-high-grade T3 of Ty Cobb, one of vintage-card collecting's most recognizable icons and the key card of the 1911 Turkey Red Tobacco cabinet-card series. This is by far the finest example we have ever seen or offered! This card has resided for decades with a longtime collector until now! It was part of a near-complete set that the collector sent to us for auction, which we have broken up and is being offered as several lots in this auction. When we were processing the set, and came to this card you can only imagine our expression, best described as WOW! Most T3s in similar grade or better (of any player), let alone examples of Ty Cobb, do not hold a candle to this card. This example is perfectly bright and clean, both front and back (checklist-style reverse), with bold colors, flawless registration, four sharp corners, and exceptional centering. We do not think that this card would look out of place in a NM+ holder, and it certainly presents as strong NM-MT condition. T3s rarely survive without serious condition problems (ranging from major creases, stains, and rounded corners, to pinholes and glue stains relating to their former display, as intended). This is a stunning ultra-high-grade example of card #9 Ty Cobb from the classic Turkey Red set. Many consider Turkey Reds to be the most beautiful and well-made tobacco set ever issued. Cobb is not just the most valuable card in the set, it also one of the best known and popular of all Ty Cobb cards. This particular card is stunning in all respects and the finest we have ever seen! This is an out-of-this-world (a term we never use to describe a card) example of one of the key cards of the era, worthy of the finest set of T3s in the world, and would be a highlight in any world-class collection of Hall of Famers or collection of the hobby's most revered and classic cards.
