Graded GOOD 2 by PSA. One of only two examples ever graded by PSA! Presented is an extremely attractive D350-2 Standard Biscuit card of Babe Ruth, one of his most significant, rarest, and in our opinion, most overlooked cards. We think the reason this card doesn't get the attention it deserves is simply because it is so rare. This is one of the premier early Ruth cards and one of the very few dating from the beginning of his legendary career. This is the first example of this important card that we have offered in the last fifteen years. (It originally appeared in REA's Spring 2018 auction, realizing $72,000.) 1917 Standard Biscuit bakery cards are one of the few major card issues dating from the mid-teens. Issued by the Standard Biscuit Company of San Francisco, they are somewhat similar in design to the E135 Collins-McCarthy cards (also issued in San Francisco), are from the same general era, and also have 200 cards in the set, so they are somehow overshadowed by the more popular E135 issue. D350-2 Standard Biscuit cards, however, are considerably rarer! They are usually encountered only in small groups and usually in low grade. Perhaps because they were issued by a bakery company, Jefferson Burdick elected to give this E135-related issue its own catalog number. Standard Biscuit cards (as well as E135s) have a glossy coated surface, which is very susceptible to creasing. This is an extremely attractive example in all respects! The offered card is bright and crisp, with outstanding picture quality, even corner wear, a crease in the lower left, and centered to the right. The reverse advertisement for Standard Biscuit Company is perfectly bold and crisp. The card has a Very Good appearance but is technically Good due to evidence of album removal on the reverse. The image on this card is an early pitching pose of Ruth. It is interesting to note the image on this card is the very same used on Ruth's 1921 E121 American Caramel candy card. This is an exceptional modestly graded example of one of Babe Ruth’s most elusive cards dating from very early in his career. Opening Bid $25,000. Estimate $75,000+.
